Delta 2292, New York Approach, Roger. What's your type there, sir?
APPROACH
Delta 2292, New York Approach, I hear you. What kind of airplane are you flying today, sir?
DELTA 2292
We're an A319, and we have 125 souls on board. We're actually going to need just a little bit to work out something. So, if you can just put us somewhere we can hold for just a little bit, that'd be great.
DELTA 2292
We’re flying an Airbus 319, and we’ve got 125 people on board. We actually need a moment to figure out a situation here. If you could just steer us somewhere we can circle for a bit, that would be a big help.
APPROACH
Yeah, sure, Delta 2292. Why don't you just fly heading 160? I can leave you on that heading for about almost 20 miles.
APPROACH
No problem, Delta 2292. Go ahead and turn to a heading of 160 degrees. I can keep you on that path for about 20 miles to give you some room.

DELTA 2292
Okay, right now we have 26,800 pounds of fuel remaining.
DELTA 2292
Copy that, we currently have 26,800 pounds of fuel left on board.

Delta 2292, whenever you're able—I'm sorry to keep asking you questions—they just want to know the nature of the emergency.
APPROACH
Delta 2292, when you have a free moment—and I apologize for pestering you with questions—the supervisors just need to know what kind of emergency you're dealing with.
DELTA 2292
We hit something. We don't know what we hit, but it was a huge hit at about 1,500 feet. It was right as we were over the stadium, making that left turn on the Whitestone climb. It was a really hard hit on the airplane. Maybe just a big bird or something, but we just don't know what kind of damage we have.
DELTA 2292
We struck something. We aren't sure what, but it was a massive impact at 1,500 feet up. It happened right as we were over the stadium, making that left turn on our departure route. The plane took a very hard hit. It might have just been a large bird, but we honestly don't know how badly the aircraft is damaged.

APPROACH
Rolling to the end, you got it. And emergency is just because you're overweight?
APPROACH
Rolling to the end, I’ve got you. And is the emergency just because the plane is too heavy for a normal landing?
DELTA 2292
Well, overweight, plus we're not exactly sure what we hit. We could have a gear issue once we get the gear down. So, we'll let you know.
DELTA 2292
Well, we’re heavy, plus we aren’t exactly sure what we hit back there. We might have a problem with the landing gear once we try to lower the wheels. So, we’ll keep you posted.

Understood, I'm with you.
